Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Engr Elias Mbam has assured that a new revenue allocation formula would be ready this year.
He dropped the hint yesterday during an interactive session with senior media executives in Abuja. In his presentations ‘Review of Revenue Allocation Formula – The Journey So Far,’ he stated, “I wish to state that all things being equal, the commission will in line with the relevant laws forward an advice on a new revenue sharing formula to Mr President before December, 2013.”
He called on all stakeholders; federal, states and local governments, the mass media, civil society organisations and the private sector to contribute in “the process that will in the final analysis enrich the content and character of the emergent revenue formula,” Mbam said
He also appealed to the media as partners for good governance and public enlightenment in the commission’s mobilization efforts encourage Nigerians to support the process that would lead to the emergence of a just, fair and equitable revenue formula that can stand the test of time.
The commission chairman also implored the media practitioners not to allow themselves to be used by any individual, organisation or government to politicise this process.
He assured Nigerians of the commission’s commitment to continue to play its role as a stabilizing force promoting unity and cohesion and ensuring fairness, equity and justice in the allocation of the nation’s commonwealth among the different constituents of the federation.
According to him, to ensure a credible review exercise, the commission has mapped out programmes and processes that would guarantee full involvement and participation of all stakeholders.
Mbam further explained that commission recently commenced sensitization visits to all the 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the zonal public hearing scheduled for later this month.
