Newcastle target Bent as Villa chase Ba

Newcastle are set to firm up their interest in Aston Villa striker Darren Bent with an official approach this week.
The former Charlton and Tottenham man is surplus to requirements at Villa Park and will be allowed to leave the club this summer.
A reported fee of £8 million, a significant loss on the £24 million the club paid for the player in 2011, is believed to be enough to snap up the 29 year old.
Newcastle believes however that they can land the player for less and will also ask the Bent to take a drop in his £70,000 a week salary if he wants to end his Midlands nightmare.
Bent is keen to move on this summer after failing out of favour with Paul Lambert.
The former Norwich manager is not a fan of the England international and is ready to replace him with Chelsea striker Demba Ba.
Ba’s short stay in London looks to be coming to an end with Jose Mourinho looking for a bigger name to lead the Chelsea forward line next season.
The former Newcastle striker only joined Chelsea in a £7 million deal last January but failed to make an impact scoring just 2 league goals in 14 games.
Chelsea have already signed German striker Andre Schurrle in an £18 million deal summer and are in the mix to land Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, Zenit star Hulk or Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic.
With Romelu Lukaku set to get his chance next season after an impressive loan spell with West Bromwich Albion the future for Ba does not appear to lie at Stamford Bridge.
Despite publicity stating his intention to stay and fight for his place Ba will be allowed to leave although with PSG, Liverpool, West Ham and Arsenal all admirers of the 28 year old Villa will have a fight on their hands to secure his services.
